H.E.L.P.’s 2016 20th Anniversary Celebrate Summer fundraiser gala, themed “Roaring 20’s Great Gatsby Ball”, was a great success, thanks to all our wonderful supporters, donors, and sponsors.

The attendees celebrated with a fun reception and silent auction with lively 20’s music provided by DJ Tony Aguilar.  Bidding was brisk.  This was followed by a lovely dinner and presentation to the event honorees, Sharon Ryan, Sharon Guthrie and Sherry May with a Special Tribute to Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe, represented by his Senior Deputy Steve Napolitano, who was also the evening’s Master of Ceremonies.

During dinner, the attendees were presented with exciting vacation packages for bid during the evening’s live auction as well as the announcement of the winner of the event’s raffle trip to New York City.  The evening was culminated with dancing to the tunes of the 20’s era.

Autumn Sunset 2015, H.E.L.P. Fall Fundraiser

The October H.E.L.P. Fall fundraiser, Autumn Sunset, was a fun opportunity for longtime friends and supporters to get together to celebrate the work of H.E.L.P. It was also wonderful to make so many new friends. True to its theme, H.E.L.P. supporters were treated to a colorful sunset overlooking the panoramic harbor -to-ocean view at the close of the evening. The weather couldn’t have been more accommodating, with clear skies and balmy breezes.

H.E.L.P. Supporters enjoy “Autumn Sunset” Fall Fundraiser 2014

H.E.L.P. hosted its very successful Fall 2014 Fundraiser, “Autumn Sunset,” at the beautiful oceanfront home of Lisa and Chuck Noski on a balmy October evening . The proceeds from the wine-tasting event, with light supper, will benefit programs and services for seniors and their families. The event was chaired by H.E.L.P. Board Treasurer, Laura Kauls, CPA., partner in the Torrance accountancy firm, McDowell, Dillon and Hunter. Décor was chaired by Kim Engen, from H.E.L.P.’s Advisory Board.

The Diamond Sponsor for the event was Peninsula philanthropist, Ralph Scriba, who was honored at H.E.L.P.’s June gala with its Lifetime Achievement Award for his longtime support of H.E.L.P. The Ruby Sponsor was Toyota Motor Sales, USA; and the Pearl Sponsor was Mary Harris, of Harris Financial Services. Underwriters were Torrance CPA, Cynthia Rustanius; and Michael Barth, esq., whose law office is in Malaga Cove.

The Noski’s generously opened their lovely oceanfront home for the H.E.L.P. Fall fundraiser.

In addition to raising funds, it was a wonderful opportunity for longtime H.E.L.P. supporters, as well as new friends, to enjoy a lovely Fall evening together. Grand Masquerade 2013 Was A Huge Success!

H.E.L.P. hosted its 2013 annual Celebrate Summer dinner-dance fundraiser on June 28 at the Palos Verdes Golf Club. The event, themed “The Grand Masquerade,” was co-chaired by H.E.L.P. Board Vice Chair Sharon Ryan and Advisory Board member Nancy Scott. They handed out colorful Mardi Gras beads at the door as H.E.L.P. Executive Director, Dr. Britt Huff, welcomed guests. The evening Grand Sponsor was the Ralph Scriba Family Fund. Platinum Sponsor was Toyota Motor Sales, USA, represented at the event by Vice President Michael Rouse and his wife, Nancy. The M.C. and auctioneer was the Honorable Steve Napolitano, former mayor of Manhattan Beach and Senior Deputy to L.A. County Supervisor, Don Knabe. The evening was a huge success, and included a drawing for a trip to New Orleans, as well as live and silent auctions.

H.E.L.P. honored three worthy individuals for their community service at the event. Jean Adelsman received the H.E.L.P. Inspiration Award. She is a former editor of the Daily Breeze, Board Chair of the Volunteer Center, Board member of the Torrance Cultural Arts Center, and long-time supporter and former Board member of H.E.L.P. Sibylle Grebe, managing partner of the Torrance-based law firm of Conover and Grebe, is a former Chair of the H.E.L.P. Board of directors, and is a member and past president of the California Council of Elder Law Attorneys. She received the Legacy Award.  Mary Jane Schoenheider received the H.E.L.P. Vanguard Award. She is the publisher of the Peninsula People Magazine, and has been involved in many South Bay nonprofits, including the Palos Verdes Art Center and the PV Concours d’Elegance.

H.E.L.P.’s “A Royal Affaire” 2012 Fundraiser is a Big Success

H.E.L.P.’s 2012 annual fundraiser, Celebrate Summer, held on June 22 at Trump Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, was a great success. The theme was “A Royal Affaire,” in honor of the Queen’s 60th anniversary and the summer Olympics in London. Honorees for the evening were Jacqueline Glass, awarded the H.E.L.P. Inspiration award; Helen Dennis, recipient of the H.E.L.P. Legacy Award; and Providence TrinityCare Hospice Foundation, awarded the H.E.L.P. Vanguard Award.

Teddy Johnson provided music and entertainment.

The Ralph Scriba Family Fund kicked off H.E.L.P.’s sponsorship drive for Celebrate Summer with a $50,000 Royal Donor sponsorship, which was a great inspiration to others in the community to join in support of our event. H.E.L.P. is also grateful to its many wonderful volunteers who worked hard to make the evening a great success. Gala committee members included Nancy Scott and Linda Cochrane, who chaired the auction for the event. Sally Moton and Mardy Maehara chaired the Royal Chances, a new fundraising opportunity this year.
