Our Getting Started Check-Ups help individuals, couples, families and others meet aging-related legal and care challenges. During your consultation, we will help you
Consultations are available by appointment. This is an advice-only service; for longer-term representation, or document review or preparation, you should contact a private attorney.
Your consultation will focus on a single topic that you select in advance:
Long-Term Care Planning. Focuses on legal and practical aspects of care planning, incapacity planning, Medi-Cal for long-term nursing home care, and paying for care.
Estate Administration. Focuses on steps to be taken upon a person's death. Includes discussion of wills, trusts, joint tenancies, beneficiary naming, pay-on-death accounts, intestacy and probate rules, small estate provisions and other asset transfer and tax rules.
Your Getting Started Check-Up will involve two important steps:
You'll complete our six-page confidential questionnaire and bring it, with related documents and information, to your meeting.
You'll meet privately with a H.E.L.P. staff elder law attorney. We schedule these meetings for an hour; sometimes they run a little longer. The attorney will

You'll receive thoughtful, knowledgeable information and advice. You'll have solid solutions and plans. You'll be in a position to move forward.
The charge for a Getting Started Check-Up is $200, payable at the time of the meeting. We invite tax-deductible donations to help us continue to provide this and other services, and to fund Getting Started Check-Ups for those unable to pay
