Background

Before becoming eligible to receive Medi-Cal for nursing home care, the applicant must meet Medi-Cals eligibility requirements. A nursing home resident with a continued income who receives Medi-Cal may have to pay a monthly share of costs. After the Medi-Cal recipient dies, the government will seek recovery from the estate, but will not always be entitled to collect.
