H.E.L.P. Leader Receives Commission on Aging Award

Ed Long, executive director of H.E.L.P., recently received the Link Award presented by the Los Angeles County Commission on Aging (LACCOA), for his outstanding volunteer service in behalf of seniors in Los Angeles County.

Manny Guerrero, president of the commission, made the presentation at its annual meeting held on June 27 at Cathedral Plaza in downtown Los Angeles.

In thanking the group, Long said "Elder abuse is a crime. The award recognizes the commission's elder abuse prevention team, which I am fortunate to chair. Commissioners Bill Mason, Hedy Harrison and Sam Demonteverde," he added, "have also been consistent contributors to the team's successes."

In addition to educating commissioners and county supervisors on elder abuse, the team has created and hosted unique training for law enforcement professionals, and has begun work to assist senior centers across the county.

Appointed to LACCOA by Supervisor Don Knabe in 2003, Long is an elder law attorney and co-founder of H.E.L.P., a nationally-recognized Torrance-based non-profit education and counseling center providing impartial information to older adults and families on elder care, law, finances, consumer protection and more.
