Geriatric Psychiatry Newsletter Features
H.E.L.P.'s Your Way
H.E.L.P.'s
Your Way family communication guide was recently featured in
the Geriatric Psychiatry News, the official newsletter of
the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP).
"In
treating the elderly, we often expect our patients to have discussed their
wishes for health care and end-of-life care with their families, loved
ones, and other potential surrogate decision makers. However, we all know
that talking about illness, death, and dying is a very difficult task for
most people. For years, we have not had the tools to help facilitate these
discussions." So wrote Dr. Douglas Kalunian, Vice-Chair to the
Clinical Practice Committee of the AAGP.
Dr.
Kalunian went on to review H.E.L.P.'s popular Your Way
guide, a tool to help people have those needed communications. Your
Way is available for free (two copies per household), and can be
requested through the H.E.L.P. web site [www.help4srs.org]
or by telephone at (310) 533-1996. H.E.L.P. has distributed thousands of
copies of Your Way to families across the United States.
