As babyboomers grow older, they may have a difficult time finding doctors
who can suitably treat their aging-related illnesses (according to a report
issued by the American Geriatrics Society and the Association of Directors
of Geriatric Academic Programs). Geriatricians, who specialize in
aging-related medical problems, are expected to number far less than the
estimated 36,000 that will be needed in the United States by the year 2030.
The report includes recommended changes to encourage doctors to specialize
in geriatrics. Recommendations include lessening the financial risks of
entering into geriatrics by reforming Medicare's method for reimbursing
geriatricians and by creating incentives for entering into the field. For
