As of July 1, 2004, Paid Family Leave Insurance, which is part of California's State Disability Insurance (SDI) program, may help workers covered by the SDI program receive up to six weeks of benefits within a 12-month period. Beside providing benefits for people who take time off from work to care for a seriously ill child or to bond with a newborn, the Paid Family Leave Insurance program also provides benefits for people who take time off to care for a seriously ill parent, spouse or domestic partner.
