According to a recent report by the California HealthCare Foundation,
inadequate staffing levels and high staff turnover rates are contributing to
quality care problems in nursing homes. Signs that point to deficient care
include
- Too many residents losing weight
- Residents spending too much time in bed and
- Too many residents confined by the use of physical restraints.
Non-profit nursing homes fared better than for-profit ones, with lower staff
turnover rates, more nursing time spent per resident and fewer violations of
regulations.
