FTC Restricts Telemarketers

In response to scams directed at Older Adults around the country, the Federal Trade Commission has adopted rules limiting the practices of telemarketers. A few of these rules are:

No calls to residences before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m., local time.
No repeat calls to a person who has requested that the seller not call back.
No bank account withdrawals without the person’s written or recorded oral permission.
The caller must promptly advise that they are trying to sell something, and what it is.
The caller must promptly advise (if true) that the contest rules do not require a purchase.
