Ask the Doctor

When you're not feeling well, visiting the Doctor can be confusing. Use the following to make a list of questions, in advance, to take with you. Take a friend along to help make sure you end up with the answers you need.

Questions for your Doctor:
What is my problem called?
How does it affect my health?
About further tests:
How long will the tests take?
How much will the tests cost?
Do the tests have side-effects or pain?
About treatments:
What treatments are available?
How long will they take?
How much will they cost?
Will there be side-effects, pain or other impacts?
What is the likelihood of success from each treatment?
What is likely to happen to me without treatment?
If medication is prescribed:
What is the name of the medication?
What is the dosage?
How often, how and when should I take it?
What does the medication do?
How long does it take to act?
How long should I take it?
How much does it cost?
Does the medication cause side-effects?
Are there restrictions on my activity?
How can I tell when I am getting better?
What's Next?

How soon should I call or come in again for test results, advice, or further examinations?
